On March 20th, 2023 around 10:30 PM, the Loveland Police Department responded to Burger King, located at 5688 N Garfield Avenue, for a report of a carjacking. Officers arrived on scene and learned the victim was sitting in his white 2009 Ford Fusion when a younger male suspect approached his window and demanded he exit the vehicle. While making the demands, the male lifted his shirt, exposing what appeared to be a handgun in his waist band. The victim got out of his vehicle and the suspect got in, fleeing northbound on North Garfield Avenue.
On March 22nd, 2023 at around 7:30 PM, at a gas station in the 3000 block of South College Avenue in Fort Collins, a younger male suspect displayed a handgun and stole money from the register. Surveillance footage showed the suspect leaving in a white sedan. Officers were able to confirm that this was the stolen vehicle from the carjacking.
On March 23rd, 2023, shortly before 2 AM, a younger male suspect went into the Kum & Go gas station, located at 115 Knobcone Drive in Loveland, and displayed a weapon to the clerk while demanding money and cigarettes. The clerk handed over the cash from the register along with the cigarettes. The male left the store and got into a white sedan and left going northbound on North Garfield Avenue. Responding Loveland Police Officers discovered that this was the white sedan that was stolen in the carjacking on March 20th. They located the suspect vehicle in the area of 71st Street and North Garfield Avenue and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle fled northbound heading into Fort Collins.
Fort Collins Police Officers located this vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and officers initiated a pursuit. The vehicle ultimately crashed into a sign near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Mulberry Street where one occupant exited and ran on foot. Another occupant exited the vehicle and stayed near it. Officers were able to catch the suspect who ran on foot. The suspect who ran on foot was a juvenile male. The other occupant, a juvenile female, reported that earlier in the night, she was walking when the juvenile male pulled up next to her, pointed a firearm at her and demanded she get into the vehicle. Inside a backpack that was carried by the suspect, officers found a realistic looking firearm that was determined to be a bb gun.
The juvenile male was arrested and booked on the following charges: Menacing – Intimidation from Robbery (Felony 5), Aggravated Robbery – Gun (Felony 3), Strongarm Robbery (Felony 4), 2nd Degree Kidnapping – threat of weapon (Felony 3), Vehicular Eluding (Felony 5), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor 2), Menacing – intimidation (Misdemeanor 1), Theft (Petty Offense). All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement, and the suspect must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
