MARTIN COUNTY, KY (WOWK) — The bodies of Billy Ray Daniels and Alvin Nees, the two men who died in a coal preparation plant collapse that happened Tuesday evening, were recovered around 8 p.m. on Friday, according to Jessica “Jesse” Elbouab with Kentucky Emergency Management. Martin County Judge Executive Dr. Lon Lafferty on Thursday identified the two men as Daniels, who was the first to be reported as deceased, and Nees. The search for the two men was finished around three days after the collapse, which Dr. Lafferty said was first called in around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.…

At least five possible hate crime incidents at Stanford University since the Israel-Hamas war’s onset are under investigation, including an apparent hit-and-run crash involving an Arab Muslim student, according to the university’s public safety department. The student was struck by a car Friday afternoon, authorities said. “The victim reported that the driver made eye contact with the victim, accelerated and struck the victim, and then drove away while shouting, ‘f*** you people,’” according to a news release from the Stanford Department of Public Safety. A preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol determined the incident was a hate crime, according to a…

Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka has finally spoken up about the Constitutional Court’s rulings on the minimum age requirement for presidential and vice presidential candidates rendered on Monday, Oct. 16. He revealed plans to meet with high-ranking officials of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to discuss the matter. With the Constitutional Court’s ruling that candidates under the required age of 40 can seek the presidency or vice presidency in the upcoming February 2024 election if they have served or are serving in an elected regional office, Gibran believed that the chance does not belong to him alone. The eldest…
Paris, Auckland, Sydney (9/9 – 10) Disclaimer. This article may offend you. Well, tough luck, go and read the science section or volunteer for the Girl Scouts. This is men’s rugby. Redneck, muscles and unabashed violence. Not suitable for the “Woke Generation”. Swearing, alcohol consumption and “guy talk” included. Political correctness? Dumped in the Men’s Room with the rest of the waste. There was once a myth going that claimed that “All Blacks are unbeatable”. Like, “the Russians are invincible and can’t be beaten”, “Americans are the Gods of basketball” (but beaten by the darn Krauts, whoever would have imagined…),…
TOKYO/WASHINGTON — The U.S., Japan and the Philippines plan to coordinate security strategies in the East China Sea and South China Sea and discuss opportunities to stage regular joint exercises under plans announced Friday, aiming to bolster deterrence against potential Chinese aggression in the region. National security advisers Jake Sullivan of the U.S., Takeo Akiba of Japan and Eduardo Ano of the Philippines met for the first time in Tokyo, agreeing to produce a formal strategy document by year-end. The joint exercises would be held in Indo-Pacific waters “in support of freedom of navigation, and the broader rules-based order,” a…
The recent ‘Qatargate’ scandal in the European Parliament, which has seen MEPs & at least one former former MEP languishing in Belgian jail cells, has re-opened another serious issue – one that is institutionalised in Brussels – that of the “fake NGO”. The fake NGO is becoming a major problem in Brussels. Typically, such a body would purport to represent human rights interests: it is always going to be difficult for a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), for example, to say “no” to an approach by a human rights NGO – but easy for NGO to use the cover…
After months of turmoil that involved an investigation into a decades-old domestic violence incident and a falling out with the family of a star player, Gregg Berhalter returns to coach the U.S. men’s soccer team. The U.S. Soccer Federation announced that it had ended its search for a head coach on Friday — about six months since Berhalter’s contract expired, creating a vacancy in the first place. U.S. Soccer officials said they evaluated a range of domestic and international candidates, but in the end, no one seemed better equipped to prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup than Berhalter —…
Australian officials have told foreign diplomats that the Aukus submarine plan is “expensive” and not “easy to replicate”, as part of an effort to play down concerns about the risks of other countries racing to do the same, a newly released tranche of documents reveals. Officials also urged diplomats to be on guard for disinformation about the nuclear-powered submarine plan, the documents show. Briefing notes obtained by Guardian Australia under freedom of information laws lay bare the arguments the government is using to defend and explain Aukus to foreign diplomats posted to Canberra. At briefings held in the capital city in the days…
