South Korean lawmakers approved a motion on Tuesday to appoint a special counsel to investigate President Yoon Suk Yeol. This comes after Yoon declared martial law and then withdrew it a week ago, sparking allegations of insurrection. The investigation adds to the growing pressure on the embattled president. In a plenary session, 210 out of 300 lawmakers in the National Assembly voted in favor of the motion. The overwhelming support highlights broad concern over Yoon’s actions and the need for accountability. Notably, the vote included at least 18 members of Yoon’s ruling People Power Party. Their support points to divisions…
Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană visited West Lafayette, Indiana on Thursday (25 April 2024), where he toured Purdue University and visited the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy (KITD). As part of its constant adaptation to new challenges, innovation is a key focus for NATO. Disruptive technologies such as AI and biotech are being increasingly exploited by our adversaries. “Technology is changing our societies, but it is also changing security and warfare,” Mr Geoană said in a discussion with President Chiang, faculty and international students. “To maintain our technological edge we need to innovate and adapt faster than our adversaries across all EDTs.…

Edwards defeated Covington via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) in the main event of UFC 296 on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. With the victory, Edwards successfully defended the UFC welterweight title for a second time. It was a fairly one-sided performance, with Covington unable to push the pace as he normally would and Edwards picking him apart from the outside with kicks. The tension between the two men boiled over at Thursday’s prefight news conference. Covington said he…

Bialik, who was nominated for outstanding host for a game show earlier this year, thanked fans and the show’s staff for…
DURHAM, New Hampshire — First Donald Trump’s Republican critics banked on one of his opponents catching a spark in Iowa. Then they said New Hampshire was where they’d make their mark. Eventually, advisers to Trump’s rivals maintained, someone would emerge from the field of lower-polling candidates to get a clear shot at Trump. After the past week, that idea has never looked more out of reach. In Iowa, new polling shows Trump not only maintaining his enormous lead in the first caucus state, but expanding on it — stretching his support to 51 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers. And in New Hampshire, Republicans…

The attorney leading a bipartisan campaign to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot in every state says there’s a “very good chance” a top court in Minnesota, Colorado or Michigan will rule on the issue before the end of the year — teeing up urgent review by the U.S. Supreme Court. “This question needs to be decided ideally before any ballots are printed, and I hope and expect it will be decided in our favor,” said Ben Clements, chairman and senior legal advisor of Free Speech for People, a legal advocacy group behind some of the constitutional challenges to Trump’s candidacy. Judges…

Many of the new investments include hundreds of millions of dollars for assembly plants to support or add additional volume as well as engine and components…
The US, UK and Australia have unveiled details of their plan to create a new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines, aimed at countering China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Under the Aukus pact Australia is to get its first nuclear-powered subs – at least three – from the US. The allies will also work to create a new fleet using cutting-edge tech, including UK-made Rolls-Royce reactors. Beijing has strongly criticised the significant naval deal. Its foreign ministry on Tuesday accused the three nations of “walking further and further down the path of error and danger”. China’s UN mission had earlier also…
Michael Cohen, former Trump ally and attorney, slammed former President Trump’s sons’ recent testimony in the New York civil fraud trial. Cohen joined MSNBC’s Ali Velshi to talk about the former president, his sons and the ongoing fraud trial that he previously testified in. Cohen said he believes both Trump children lied under oath and are “emulating their father.” “I mean, the guy lies the way you breathe, and the kids are doing the same thing,” Cohen said about the former president and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. “How stupid do they have to be?” In back-to-back testimonies on Thursday, the…
