Fourteen years ago, Adam Lambert got his start by singing “Bohemian Rhapsody” for his “American Idol” audition in San Francisco. Now, he’s heading back to the city where he got his start. But this time, he’s fronting the band that wrote that iconic ballad.
Queen + Adam Lambert are scheduled to come to Chase Center on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Hailing originally from West London, Queen are one of the most influential bands of the 1970s and 1980s. Cultural icon Freddy Mercury, the band’s original lead singer from 1970 until his death in 1991, is remembered as one of the most legendary frontmen of all time. Roger Taylor and Brian May are the band’s two surviving original members still touring.
Queen songs like “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Under Pressure” still regularly play at weddings, on classic rock radio stations and at sports arenas around the globe.
Lambert finished runner-up in “American Idol’s” eighth season, following his “Bohemian Rhapsody” audition in 2009. Since then, he’s released five solo albums and amassed more than 4 million social media followers. Like Mercury before him, Lambert is a queer icon.
After first performing together on an episode of Lambert’s “American Idol” season, Queen and Lambert began touring together in 2012. Queen + Adam Lambert last played a Bay Area show in 2017, when they performed at San Jose’s SAP Center.
The band is attempting to combat price gouging by only allowing tickets to be resold at face value prices.
“We get pissed off at the fact that fans get ripped off by people scalping and buying tickets purely for resale,” May told USA Today. “We hope the fans feel that we’re trying to take care of them in that way.”
With 14 shows in barely over a month, the Northern American tour will be short but sweet. California fans who miss out on seeing the San Francisco set can catch the band in Los Angeles when they play BMO Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, March 31, at 10 a.m.
